’Jackets end perfectly vs. Westview

Greenfield stayed perfect and kept its long winning streak going by beating its county rival.
The Lady Yellowjackets posted a 5-2 win over Westview at the UT Martin courts on Tuesday in the final regular season match of the season for both girls’ tennis programs.
Greenfield finishes the 2012 season with an unblemished record of 11-0, marking the fourth straight undefeated regular season for the Lady ’Jackets, who went 12-0, 12-0 and 10-0 the previous three years.
Greenfield kept its regular season winning streak alive for another year, now at 49 straight since 2008.
Each team will now move on to its respective district tournament. Westview returns to the UTM courts on Friday and Saturday for the District 14A-AA Tournament, while Greenfield heads to the Bethel University courts in McKenzie for the 13A-AA event beginning Saturday morning.
In Tuesday’s season finale, Greenfield got wins in four of the five singles matches and the No. 2 doubles for its five points.
Westview put up a battle in No. 1 singles, where Melissa Darroch led 5-2 before Lady ’Jacket Taylor Hatcher made a big comeback and took the match 9-7.
The second and fourth seeds in singles resulted in 8-0 wins for Greenfield as Kalee Kesterson and Callie Croom blanked their opponents, Westview’s Laura Ferrer and Jasmine Evans.
 The No. 5 match was a close one as Lauren Rush of GHS had to battle to put away Carlie Vowell of Westview 8-6.
Westview took the No. 3 singles spot with Natalie Hurst prevailing over Kendal Cook 9-7.
At No. 6 singles, it was Westview’s Madison Williams over Ashton Pence of 8-3. Greenfield won at seven, eight and nine in singles as Kristen Lusby beat Jessica Evans 8-3, Savannah Ricketts topped Annabelle Cornia 8-1 and Chelsea Willis won 8-3 over Chelsea Thweatt.
In doubles, there were four matches played with Greenfield taking three.
In No. 1, Westview’s Darroch and Ferrer outplayed Kesterson and Cook 6-4.
Greenfield completed the team win at the second seed as Hatcher and Croom of beat Hurst and Vowell 6-2.
At No. 3, Rush and Pence defeated Evans and Evans 6-0, while Lusby and Ricketts took a 6-1 decision over Thweatt and Cornia at the fourth spot.
