key Westview soccer

Nic Fortner had two assists and Scout Edwards registered four saves in helping Westview defeat Trenton 3-1 in boys’ prep soccer play on Thursday.
Adam Reinhard, Cal Bradshaw and Sumner Gilliam all scored a goal for the Chargers.
Westview improves to 9-3-1 overall and 5-0 in the district.
The Chargers’ scheduled match with Covington on Monday was cancelled.

Westview will have three seeded spots when the District 14A-AA Tennis Tourament begins Friday afternoon at the UT Martin courts.
The boys’ doubles team of Coonner Blanchard and Harrison Capps is seeded fifth, as are Gian Garma and Melissa Darroch in the boys’ and girls’ singles brackets, respectively.
Ethan Plunk will also represent the Chargers in boys’ singles, while Lauren Ferrer will compete in girls’ singles as she opens in one of the event’s play-in matches at 3:30 p.m.
Westview will have two teams competing in girls’ doubles.
Jasmine Evans and Madison Williams will play a seeded team in the opening round, while Carlie Vowell and Natalie Hurst will be involved in a play-in match.

UTM wins opener,
then drops next two

UT Martin scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a tie and defeat SEMO 5-4 in the opening game of their OVC series on Friday, but then the Red Hawks came back with wins of 13-1 and 14-2 on Saturday and Sunday.
Grant Glasser was 6-for-11 for the Skyhawks in the series, getting a hit in all three games.
He was 3-for-5 in the opener, while Matt Young was 2-for-5 with two RBI.
Glasser and Byron Johann were 2-for-3 on Saturday, while Young was 3-for-4 and Jake Deason was 2-for-4 on Sunday.

on Newcomer list

Brendon Caballero, a freshman at UT Martin, was named to the Ohio Valley Conference’s Golf All-Newcomer team.
The Brentwood native is the first UTM golfer selected to the all-newcomer team since 2009, when Matt Stephens was named to the squad.
Caballero is the fourth UT Martin golfer named to the OVC’s All-Newcomer team since its inception in 2006.
Other UT Martin honorees include Stephens (2009); Cole Floyd (2008) and Bradley Stevens (2006).
Caballero has played in 26 rounds this year and he sports a 74.08 stroke average.
He also leads the Skyhawks in par 3 and par 4 scoring.
