wins 2nd straight
South Fulton put together back-to-back soccer victories with a 6-0 triumph over Gibson County Monday.
The Red Devils, who beat Ripley last week to stop a long losing skid, are now 4-7-2.
Skyler Britt opened SF’s scoring vs. Gibson County on Monday, and Easton Wolfe also had a first-half goal.
Jalen Sowell scored twice in the second half and Jiten Dave also found the net for the Redmen, according to head coach Mixon Moore.
Ortiz’s goal golden
in UCMS triumph
The junior Tornadoes were truly Golden.
Brayan Ortiz scored the Golden Goal in the sudden death overtime period to give Union City a 1-0 win over Covington Crestview in middle school soccer action on Saturday.
The Golden Tornadoes face a win-or-go-home match in the quarterfinals of the West Tennessee Soccer Association of Middle Schools today at USJ.
Today’s match begins at 5:30 p.m.
Wyridge starts up
men’s sramble play
Wynridge Golf Club will begin men’s scramble play on Thursday.
Start time will be 5:30 p.m. The cost will be $10 for members and $15 for guests.
Hamburgers with all the trimmings will be served after the golf.
Those wishing to participate should call 536-5565 by noon Thursday to sign up.
Gilberts next guests
on wrestling card
The NWA Warriors of Wrestling in Union City has already hosted Dutch Mantell and Rocky Johnson.
The local circuit will next have appearances by Tommy Gilbert and his son “Dangerous” Doug Gilbert on June 23.
Another surprise and announcement will be made during this weekend’s card.
This past weekend saw Michael put another powerbomb on Horn, the result of a challenge from Horn when he interrupted an interview with local promoter Alvin Minnick.
In other action, the tag team EMTs defeated LSD, Eric Wayne followed his pin over Jerry “The King” Lawler two nights earlier in Memphis with a win over Tornado and Bourne defeated Steven Rampage.
In the main event “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony cheated his way to another victory by getting the pin on “The Blues Man” Ike Tucker after the Golden Boy’s new love interest interfered on his behalf.
UTM offers shuttle
for local campers
In conjunction with its two summer camp dates, the UT Martin soccer team is offering a free bus shuttle to and from the Skyhawk facilities for several local schools.
The first 25 participants who sign up for the all-day camp from Ridgemont, Lake Road, South Fulton Elementary and Union City Middle School will all receive a free bus ride on June 4-7 and July 30-Aug. 2.
Once each day’s camp session is completed, the bus will load up once again and take the children back to their respective schools.
The free bus roundtrip is only offered to campers ages 7-15, who will participate from 9 a.m-4 p.m. Published in The Messenger 5.1.12
