Accident claims local man
A Union City man died Saturday when his vehicle ran off a rural Obion County road and overturned.
Terry Ray Lofton, 26, died in a one-vehicle crash that occurred just before 8 a.m. Saturday on Robert Woods Road in the Hornbeak-Samburg area, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report.
Lofton was southbound on Robert Woods Road when he apparently lost control of his 1986 Chevy S-10 pickup and swerved to the west. The vehicle exited the west side, entered a ditch and struck an embankment, then overturned and came to rest on its roof facing north, the THP reported.
He was traveling alone at the time and was not wearing a seat belt, according to information released by the Tennessee Department of Safety. The reporting officer indicated he believed a seat belt would have made a difference.
His death marks the 10th traffic fatality so far this year in Obion County.
Funeral services for Lofton will be Tuesday at Cryer Funeral Home in Obion (see related obituary, this page.)
