UT Martin’s Jodie Tiley was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, while teammate Ivon Simic brought home all-league second team honors, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
In addition to capturing the league’s top individual honor, Tiley was also named to the All-OVC first team. That marks the second consecutive season that the Cambridge, England, native has racked up first team honors to go along with her 2009 OVC Freshman of the Year award.
Tiley, who has won 75 percent of her career decisions in league play (24-9 singles, 26-8 doubles), is the fifth Skyhawk to earn All-OVC Player of the Year accolades and is the first since Sari Nortje earned the award in 2005.
“No one deserves this honor more,” UT Martin head coach Dennis Taylor said of Tiley, who becomes the first player in OVC history to win both the Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year honors in a career. “Jodie is the ultimate student-athlete and is what all coaches want players to be on and off the court. Much of our success over the last two years is because of Jodie. She has been a great team leader, a loyal teammate and a friend to everyone on campus. What a way to end your college tennis career.”
