County to observe National Day of Prayer

Four cities in Weakley County will join in honoring the National Day of Prayer May 3.
Prayer rallies will be held next week at the Weldon Park in Martin beginning at 12:05 p.m.; in Greenfield at the downtown mini-park beginning at noon; on the steps of the Weakley County Courthouse in Dresden at 11:30 a.m.; and beside Gleason City Hall in Gleason beginning at noon that day.
The event in Martin is sponsored by the Martin Ministerial Alliance. Pastor Wendell Jellison coordinated the event in Greenfield.
Pastor Ed Eubank is in charge of the prayer event in Dresden and Pastor Tom Spellings will coordinate the prayer event in Gleason.
The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by Pres. Harry S. Truman. This national observance is based upon the understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for God and the Bible, according to a press release. More than 40,000 local, regional, and national gatherings will be scheduled across the nation May 3, the National Day of Prayer. This year’s theme is “One Nation Under God.”
