Westview had the better boys’ tennis team on Tuesday, one day after the girls were a better team.
The Lady Chargers picked up a 4-3 win over Trenton Monday, and then the Westview boys notched a 4-2 verdict over Dyersburg the following day.
Westview dropped the boys’ match against Trenton 4-2 and the girls’ match with Dyersburg 5-2.
The Chargers will complete their regular season Monday against Greenfield in girls-only play at the UT Martin courts.
Connor Blanchard won all four of his matches, helping the Chargers beat Dyersburg by defeating Nic Bowers 8-4 at No. 3 singles and teaming with Harrison Capps for an 8-1 win over Taylor Flatman and Jesse Cochrum at the second doubles spot.
Blanchard defeated Nate Adams 8-1 at No. 3 and joined Capps for another 8-1 outcome over Eli King and Noah Allen for Westview’s only two wins against Trenton.
Against Dyersburg, Capps also won his singles match with an 8-4 verdict over Elliott Feith at the fourth seed, while Gian Garma topped Jeff Betonio 8-2 at the top singles seed.
Ethan Plunk nearly had the Trenton match end in a tie, falling short in an 8-5 loss to King at No. 2 singles.
Plunk and Garma lost at the top doubles spot, while Garma lost at No. 1 in singles as well.
In their win over Trenton, the Lady Chargers took three of the five singles matches and split the two doubles matches.
Laura Ferrer claimed an 8-3 decision over Mary E. Gibson at the second seed, Natalie Hurst won 8-4 over Rachel Hamm at No. 3 and Madison Williams claimed an 8-6 win over Nicole Newman at No. 5.
Hurst and Jasmine Williams then defeated Hamm and Gibson 8-6 in the second doubles seed.
Melissa Darroch was part of both Westview girls’ wins over Dyersburg. She beat Corena Hasselle 8-6 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Ferrer for an 8-2 win over Catherine Moore and Madison Vaughn at No. 1 doubles.
The doubles win gave Ferrer a split against Moore as Ferrer came up just short, 8-6, in their singles match at the No. 2 seed.
Madison Maitland had two wins for the Trenton girls, defeating Darroch 8-4 at No. 1 singles and teaming with Holly Johnson for an 8-2 win over Darroch and Ferrer at No. 1 doubles.
Dyersburg, meanwhile, was stronger down the ladder in singles, posting wins of 8-3, 8-1 and 8-3 at the third through fifth spots. Published in The WCP 4.26.12
