DiPietro to address UT Martin graduates on May 5

University of Tennessee President Dr. Joe DiPietro will deliver the spring commencement address at the University of Tennessee at Martin at 11 a.m. May 5 in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
DiPietro became the 25th president of the University of Tennessee in January 2011 and is the chief executive officer of the statewide system that includes the flagship campus in Knoxville, campuses in Chattanooga and Martin, the Health Science Center in Memphis, the Space Institute in Tullahoma and institutes of agriculture and public service.
He previously served as the chancellor for the UT Institute for Agriculture from 2006 to 2010, during which time the institute began interdisciplinary programs such as the Center for Renewable Carbon, the Tennessee Biofuels Initiative and the master’s degree in landscape architecture. External grant support for the institute also increased by 30 percent during his time as chancellor.
DiPietro earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctor of veterinary medicine degrees from the University of Illinois, Urbana. He has also served as dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida, as well as assistant director of the Agriculture Experiment Station and associate dean for research of the College of Veterinary Medicine at UI-Urbana.
Tickets are required for admission to UT Martin’s spring commencement and each graduate will be given six complimentary tickets for guests. Over 750 degrees are slated to be awarded.
