UTM band, ensemble to perform Thursday Posted: Monday, April 23, 2012 6:00 pm The Messenger 04.23.12 The University of Tennessee at Martin concert band and wind ensemble will present a combined program titled “The Journey” 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the ballroom of Boling University Center. The concert band will present five works illustrating the theme of travel. Audience members will hear Chris Bernotas’ “Pony Express,” “Noisy Wheels of Joy” by Eric Whitacre and “Star Ship” by Yukiko Nishimura. The band will also perform “Out of This World (The Music of John Williams),” as arranged by Jay Bocook, and “Olympiada” by Samuel Hazo. The UT Martin wind ensemble will also present a variety of selections, to include “Under the Double Eagle” by Joseph Wagner, “To Tame the Perilous Skies” by David Holsinger and Timothy Mahr’s “The Soaring Hawk.” Both ensembles are under the direction of Matthew Stratton, instructor of music.
