Sports Briefs Posted: Friday, April 20, 2012 12:00 pm Some not reporting spring sports results Once again, there is no report on the Greenfield softball program in today’s Press. Despite repeated requests by multiple members of the sports department, Yellowjacket head coach Hal Blackman has not reported results nor particulars of his team’s games all season. The only reports published have come courtesy of opponents of Greenfield. The Press has made contacts with every coach of every spring sport, seeking reports on their respective games. While many have graciously fulfilled their responsibilities of promoting their team, school and community, a handful have elected not to. In addition to Greenfield’s season-long absence of reports, there have been several instances, too, of non-reports from Westview baseball and Dresden baseball — despite repeated requests for information. The Press has provided photo coverage of more than three dozen spring sports events involving the four Weakley County schools and UT Martin in the first month of the season Any issues concerning unreported results should be directed at the accountable coach. Wrong player listed for Westview team Westview second baseman Blake Parham was incorrectly identified as Brett Parham in a photo in Tuesday’s edition of The Press. The Press apologizes for the error. Skyhawks fill needs with softball signee Donley Canary, the head softball coach at UT Martin, wanted to strengthen his pitching staff, find a good alternative for third base and bolster his team’s offense with a solid hitter. The veteran coach managed to get all three when he signed Autumn Glenn, a right-handed pitcher, infielder and power hitter, from Covington to a scholarship. Glenn will join the Skyhawks in the fall of 2012. Glenn is a three-time all-district selection, an all-state tournament honoree, an all-state pick her junior year and an All-Metro (Memphis) standout. She was also named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class AA All-State team. Published in The WCP 4.19.12 |
