FREE BOOKS — Thirty copies of the best-selling “The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls, the 2011 Union City Rotary Club Distinguished Speaker, will be given away Monday at 5 p.m. at Promethean Foundation, located at 206 East Reelfoot Ave. behind Subway. The free books are being made available through the “World Book Night” program, according to Union City resident Angie Morrow. Monday will mark “… a celebration of reading and books which will see tens of thousands of people share books with others in their communities across America to spread the joy and love of reading …,” according to the website. Mrs. Morrow (at left) found out about the program online, applied to earn the books for this community and traveled to Blytheville, Ark., to pick them up recently. She will be handing them out in front of the Promethean Foundation office. Joining her in the effort to encourage reading are her children, Kendyl, who is a first-grader at Union City Elementary School, and Austin, who is a fourth-grader at the school. Cathy Waggoner is the Promethean Foundation program administrator. To learn more about the program, go to http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/.
