An argument and shooting Friday morning near Palmersville in Weakley County left one man dead and another hospitalized.
The incident apparently occurred around 10 a.m. at a lawnmower shop on Harrison Road, north of Palmersville, the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The 911 dispatch center in Dresden received a call at 10:07 a.m. that 68-year-old Oren Willis of 922 Wesley Chapel Road had stopped in the 7900 block of Palmersville Highway 89 and asked someone to call an ambulance because he had been shot.
Willis also allegedly told people there that he had shot 64-year-old Roy McAlpin of 153 Harrison Road at his lawnmower repair shop on Harrison Road, according to Weakley County sheriff’s investigator Randall McGowan.
Deputies arrived at the Harrison Road scene at 10:19 a.m. and found McAlpin dead of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Willis had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest and arm and was flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville for treatment. His condition was not known Friday afternoon at the time of the sheriff’s department press release.
The case remains under investigation and McGowan said the evidence will be presented to a grand jury at a later date.
