Martin man arrested for murder conspiracy

A Martin man was arrested last week after he allegedly hired a “hit man” to kill five people.
Jerry Alvarado Lopez, 58, of 401 Lee St. in Martin was arrested Thursday after officers received information from an ATF agent regarding Lopez.
According to an affidavit of complaint, Lopez had allegedly solicited a special agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to murder five individuals.
The ATF informant apparently has a reputation of providing reliable information in the past, which has led to convictions in U.S. Federal Court, according to the affidavit.
The ATF agent was in an undercover capacity when Lopez allegedly offered him money in exchange for the murders.
Authorities conducted a search of Lopez’ vehicle after taking him into custody and allegedly found a Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol in the glove compartment of the vehicle.
Lopez admitted the weapon was his, according to an affidavit. He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon as a result of felony convictions in Utah in 1983.
He also faces five counts of solicitation to commit murder. He is being held without bond.
