UC grappling card to feature Soulman Rocky Johnson is coming to Union City. Known as the “Soulman” during his wrestling days and now as the father of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the WWE Hall of Famer will be meeting fans Saturday night as part of the NWA Warriors of Wrestling card. He is appearing as part of the local federation’s on-going Wrestling Legends Series. Johnson will see a card that features “Trendsetter” Jon Michael putting his NWA Mid-South Heavyweight title on the line against “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony in the main event. “The Blues Man” Ike Tucker will take on undefeated “3G” Eric Wayne as part of the card. This past weekend, Michael powerbombed Ron Horn to win their non-title match, the win coming after Rebecca Raze alerted the referee to Horn getting out a chain to use on Michael. In other action, Anthony defeated The Tornado, Shawn Reed pinned Joseph Bourne, The EMTs cheated their way past Ty Blade and Chic Canyon, and Naughty By Nature “Rude” earned a tough victory over The Fabulous Rocker. ‘Undefeated’ player Austin Peay-bound CLARKSVILLE (AP) — O.C. Brown of Memphis, the focal point of the Academy Award-winning documentary “Undefeated,” has transferred to Austin Peay State University from Southern Miss. The redshirt sophomore offensive lineman will have three seasons of eligibility left. In February, “Unde-feated” won the Academy Award for best documentary feature. Brown will join two of his former Manassas High School teammates at Austin Peay. After redshirting in 2010 at Southern Miss, Brown was a reserve lineman this past season. Eli follows Peyton as host of SNL EAST RUTHER-FORD, N.J. (AP) — Live from New York, it’s Eli Manning. The New York Giants’ quarterback will be the host for Saturday Night Live on May 5. Eli won’t be the first Manning to host the show. His brother, Peyton, did it in 2007 and had a very funny “United Way” skit in which he coached youngsters, hit them with passes in the back and stomach and even banished one to a portable bathroom for 20 minutes. Eli Manning has no stage experience. Published in The Messenger 4.17.12 |
