PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard began hearing testimony today in Paducah on the collapse of a Tennessee River bridge in western Kentucky. A span of the Eggner’s Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake fell when a cargo ship, the Delta Mariner, hit the steel bridge on Jan. 26. The Coast Guard and the National Transportation and Safety Board are jointly investigating the crash. The hearing was to begin at 1 p.m. at Paducah City Hall and will continue at 7:15 a.m. each day until it’s over. The bridge serves as the western entrance to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. It is expected to be reopened to traffic before Memorial Day. Published in The Messenger 4.16.12 |
