New lighting celebrated Posted: Friday, April 13, 2012 1:11 pm The Messenger, April 13, 2012 The University of Tennessee at Martin will celebrate the installation of new campus lighting with a ceremony and outdoor meal Tuesday. The new lighting will replace old lights installed on campus around 1970. The replacements will produce more light while using less energy and many new lights will illuminate previously unlit areas of the campus, increasing safety. The illumination celebration is set for 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in the quad near Boling University Center on the UT Martin campus, where entertainment events will be held prior to the lighting at 7. Segway races, cornhole games and “redneck” golf will be available, in addition to entertainment activities in honor of Earth Week. A door prize drawing will also be held for a lamp post that will be dedicated to the winner. A wide selection of picnic foods will be available. Students may purchase food with their meal plan and campus faculty/staff and immediate family can request tickets from the Chancellor’s Office. Meal cost will be $7 for community members. Dr. Joe DiPietro, UT system president, will address guests. Area residents are invited to attend the celebration. |
