Miss Cherry to wed Houston on June 30 Posted: Friday, April 13, 2012 8:01 pm The engagement and forthcoming marriage of Virginia Anne “Ginna” Cherry of Ripley and Daniel Ray Houston of Jackson are being announced today. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morris Cherry of Ripley. Her grandparents are the late Dr. Arden Jones Butler Jr. and Lynda L. Butler, both of Ripley, the late Robert Kirkland “Bob” Cherry and Mrs. Robert Kirkland “Pat” Cherry of Union City. She is a 2007 honors graduate of Ripley High School, where she was class salutatorian. She graduated magna cum laude in 2011 from the University of Tennessee at Martin, where she earned a bachelor of music degree in music education-vocal emphasis. While at UTM, she was a member of the New Pacer Singers, University Singers, Lyric Opera Theatre, Chi Omega fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota International Music fraternity and Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society; was PEP Leader; and was named to Who’s Who Among Students of College and Universities. She is a music teacher at Bells Elementary School and is the children’s choir director at First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. The groom-elect is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Clyde Houston of Jackson. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Ray Toten of Branson, Mo., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wilton Houston of Laurel, Miss. He is a 2007 honors graduate of Northside High School in Jackson. He attends UTM, where he plans to earn a bachelor of music degree in music education-instrumental emphasis this May. While at UTM, he has been a member of the Percussion Ensemble, Percussive Arts Society, Skyhawk Marching Band, concert band and wind ensemble and has been a member of Drum Corps International’s Music City Drum Corp of Nashville-Open Class Division. The couple will wed 6:30 p.m. June 30 at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. A reception will follow at The New Southern Hotel in downtown Jackson. Formal invitations will be sent.
