| While Union City’s girls were winning every match, the Golden Tornado boys were coming up just short in a battle with Halls at the Middle School courts on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Tornadoes held off several challenges for a 7-0 team victory.
UC’s boys, meanwhile, managed to break through just once in a 6-1 loss.
Maddie King, Jenna Miller, Anna Moore and Tara Elam were all involved in two wins for Union City’s girls.
King topped Molly Houston at the top singles spot, while Miller outlasted Haleigh Hurt for a 9-7 decision at No. 3. The two also paired up for an 8-2 win over Haleigh and Shelbie Hurt at the second doubles spot.
Moore and Elam posted an 8-5 win over Houston and Julie Hill in No. 1 doubles play, then Moore topped Shelbie Hurt 8-5 at No. 2 and Elam bettered Hill 8-6 at No. 4 in singles action.
Ellen Bearden defeated Maddie Hutcherson 8-3 in their No. 5 singles match.
Devin King claimed the only win for Union City in boys’ action as he topped Devin Castelli 8-4 at the third singles spot.
UC was close in several other matches, coming up short each time.
Peyton Cox and Ellis Critchlow each dropped 8-6 decisions in singles play.
Cox and Alex Pegram lost by that score in their second-seed doubles match.
