High seed wins not enough for Rebs

High seed wins not enough for Rebs

Dyersburg was simply too tough down the ladder for Obion Central.
OC won the top two girls’ singles matches and the No. 2 boys’ singles but could not post any wins in the lower seeds or in doubles against the Lady Trojans in their prep tennis match at the Fairground courts Monday afternoon.
D’burg notched a 5-2 girls’ win and 6-1 boys’ decision.
Marissa Howard won the day’s best match, going 7-5 in the tiebreaker for a 9-8 verdict over Corena Hasselle at the top spot in singles.
Lindsay Castellaw won at No. 2 for Central with an 8-3 score over Catherine Moore.
The Lady Rebs won just five games in the other three matches, though, and fell short in 8-4 and 8-3 losses on the doubles courts.
Austin Riley gave the Rebel boys their lone highlight with an 8-0 win over Jeff Betonio at the second singles seed.
Riley and Dallas Mathis came the closest to giving Central another win in suffering an 8-6 loss to Betonio and Josh Williams in the No. 1 doubles match.
