James G. Hargett Posted: Friday, April 6, 2012 4:00 pm James Gordon Hargett, 71, died Monday, April 2, 2012, at home following a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Old Union Cemetery, Belmont, Miss. with Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery with Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay, Ala., will be in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Gerald Smith, Ronnie Guy, Phillip Cain, Jason Kuykendall, Tommy Ferguson and Joey Cruse. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Motes, Steve Cain, Halbert Pitts, John Smith and Jerry Owens. He was a native of Memphis, a retired artist and art professor for Itawamba County schools and various colleges and universities in the south. He was a member of Old Union Baptist Church, Belmont, Miss. Survivors are his wife, Myrna Jane Jolley Hargett of Golden, Miss.; two children, Tiffany Marsh (Shawn) of Memphis and Dr. Trisha Guy (Ronnie) of Rembert, S.C.; his mother, Lillie Mae Hargett of Golden; one sister, LaVerne Hargett Golden of Millington; two grandchildren, Trace Guy and Sarah Eden Guy, both of Rembert; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry G. Hargett; and an infant brother, Charles Larry Hargett. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Old Union Baptist Church in Belmont, Miss., or LeBonheur Children’s Hospital. WCP 4.05.12 |
