Chargers’ victories few against Pioneers, Halls

Westview followed up Monday’s outing against a hodge-podge Gibson County lineup with a Tuesday’s date against a somewhat more organized Halls team in prep tennis action.
The Chargers came away with wins in just three matches.
Monday’s match provided Westview head coach Chad Johnson the opportunity to give the lower half of his ladder some match experience as the team’s 6-9 seeds played Gibson County’s top four players.
Chelsea Thweatt notched an 8-4 win over Haley Davis at the fourth spot in girls’ singles, while Gian Garma topped the Pioneers’ Ziggy Kenton 8-3 in the only boys’ match.
Johnson actually played two teams in the only doubles match, the odd match made necessary when two Lady Pioneer players left following singles action.
Laura Ferrer and Natalie Hurst played the first five games, and then Madison Williams and Carlie Vowell finished up in an 8-5 loss to Jessamy Moore and Hope Siler.
Westview’s lone win against Halls came at the No. 2 doubles spot with Connor Blanchard and Harrison Capps putting up an 8-3 win over Devin Castelli and Austin Adkins.
Blanchard and Castelli had a battle at the third singles spot, Castelli escaping with a 9-7 win.
