Church news Posted: Thursday, April 5, 2012 6:11 pm The Messenger, April 5, 2012 Good Friday service set On Friday at 7 p.m., in observance of Good Friday, New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, located at 1102 East Vine St. in Union City, will host the preaching of the “Seven Last Words of Christ.” Homilies will be preached by Elder Ron Smith, pastor of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, the Rev. Darrell Turner, pastor of Mt. Zion CME Church, the Rev. Clay Holiday, pastor of Brown Chapel AME Church, the Rev. Phillip Sanders, pastor of Right Path Ministries, and the Rev. Leroy Brent, pastor of Visions Community Baptist Church, all in Union City; Elder Curtis McLendon, pastor of Emmanuel Church of God in Christ in Tiptonville; and the Rev. Carl Minor, pastor of Brooks Chapel Ministries in Fulton. Music will be provided by the New Hope Gospel Choir. The community is invited to attend. CP services set Tony Cacamisi of Bartlett, a lay speaker, will be fill the pulpit Sunday at 11 a.m. at Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church. His sermon, “Living Hope,” will be based on I Peter 1:3-5. The service will also be broadcast live on WOBT-TV, channel 26. A nursery is available for the service. The church’s weekly schedule also includes 9:45 a.m., prayer; 10, Sunday school; 10:40, Holy Grounds coffee fellowship; worship, 11. This will be the last “visiting pastor” before the congregation welcomes their new permanent and long-awaited pastor, the Rev. Drew Hayes, who will begin serving April 22. On April 15, the church will host the Bethel University Renaissance Group, who will be in charge of the worship service. The community is invited to attend all services. The church is located at 631 East Church St. To greet great day The Troy Ministerial Association will be hosting an Easter sunrise service Sunday at 7 at Troy United Methodist Church. Everyone is invited to attend, a spokesman said. Music fund raiser set Unity Ministries Song Fest benefit singing is set for April 22 at 6 p.m. at Rutherford First Baptist Church. The featured gospel group will be The Joylanders, with specials offered also by Beech Grove Male Chorus, Amy Jones Powell and Kelly Warren Tucker. A love offering will be accepted. “Please make plans to join us for this wonderful night of worship and praise as we raise money to benefit the needs of our local communities and mission projects,” a spokesman said. Egg hunt planned Brown Chapel AME Church, located on East College Street in Union City, will host an Easter egg hunt for area children Saturday at 1 p.m. The children will be able to enjoy free hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks at the event. The Rev. Clay Holliday is pastor. Early worship slated Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 880 Beech Chapel Road near Union City, will celebrate Easter with an early service at 7, followed by breakfast. Sunday school will begin at 10, and there will be worship and communion at 11. There will not be a Sunday evening service. Dr. Bobby Williams and the congregation invite the community to celebrate this special day with them. Church tells events First Pentecostal Church, located at 2501 West Main St. in Union City, welcomes the community to an Easter service at 10:30 Sunday. The congregation will also host a fun event for children Saturday at 2 p.m. at Graham Park, in the area near the model plane field Free hot dogs and drinks will be offered and there will be games for children to enjoy. The community is invited to attend. Reception planned Members of St. James Parish in Union City will honor the Rev. Don Brooks with a reception marking his retirement April 15 from 2-4 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, located at 422 East Church St. in Union City. The community is invited to attend. Friday service set “The Stations of the Cross” will be the title of the Friday evening service at 7 at Union City First United Methodist Church at 420 East Main St. The public is invited to attend. |
