Gene Austin Moss, 82, of Humboldt, formerly of Obion County, passed away March 30, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer. He died peacefully, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Obion County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon Saturday until time to leave for the cemetery.
He had requested that donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
He was born April 19, 1929, to the late George and Eunice Moss. He was raised on a farm in Obion County and had a love for farming throughout his life. He worked his own farm until the mid 1970s. He then later worked at Funk’s Seed International before retirement.
He was married to the late Bettye Sue (Rogers) Moss. Theirs was a marriage of great love, laughter and commitment. Also preceding him in death were two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his brother, Alvin Moss of Arlington, Ky.; two sons, Dwight Moss of Athens, Ala., and Kim Moss of New Orleans; his daughter, Tonya Johnson of Jackson; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was known for his kind spirit. He had a strong love for his family and friends and was a man who could be counted on in a time of need. His strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ gives his family peace knowing that “to be absent from the body, is to be at home with the Lord.” (II Corinthians 5:8)
