| | Union City’s Veterans Park hosted more than 100 engineering students representing 14 universities from across the Mid-South Friday. Students from as far away as Louisiana State University unloaded their colorful concrete canoes into the pond on the north side of town for a day of canoe sprint races and canoe slalom races. The University of Tennessee at Martin hosted the American Society of Civil Engineers Deep South Conference for the first time this past weekend. Among those navigating around the shores of the pond Friday morning were Andy Odenthal (left photo, back of canoe) and Trey Triplett, both of Mississippi State University. Students competed in concrete canoe events and steel bridge contests. | | | | |
