VFW news announced Posted: Monday, April 2, 2012 5:17 pm The Messenger, April 2, 2012 Jones-Walker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4862 in Union City will host a family get-together featuring hamburgers, chips and drink for $5 or hot dogs, chips and drink for $4 beginning 6 p.m. Saturday at the post home on North Clover Street in Union City. A cake walk is planned for 7 p.m. and event chairman Brenda Futrell is requesting donations of baked items. There will also be a country ham give-away and a spokesman is encouraging members to “get your name in the pot.” All proceeds will go to help cover the cost of new flooring for the VFW auxiliary room, the spokesman said. The post members and auxiliary will also host an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday for the children and grandchildren of post, auxiliary and guest members, including those associated with the 913th National Guard unit. Children must be 10 years old or younger to take part in the event at the post home, which will be staged outdoors, weather permitting. In the event of rain, the hunt will be moved to the ballroom, according to event chairman Jenny Vickers. |
