Union City couldn’t be beaten. Obion Central was not able to get a win.
The local tennis teams were on opposite ends of play Tuesday afternoon as the Golden Tornadoes took a pair of 7-0 wins over visiting Dyersburg while Central suffered a pair of 7-0 losses at Halls.
The two teams will come together Thursday at the Middle School courts on Thursday as UC will play host to the Rebels.
Against the Trojans, Union City faced few challenges in sweeping to the team wins.
Maddie King cruised to an 8-1 win over Corena Hasselle at the top singles seed and joined with Jenna Miller for an 8-3 verdict over Hasselle and Ava Mae Northcutt in doubles.
The top doubles twosome of Anna Moore and Tara Elam handled Madison Vaughn and Catherine Moore 8-1. The two also won their singles matches as UC’s Moore earned an 8-2 decision over Dyersburg’s Moore, while Elam battled back for an 8-5 win over Vaughn.
Miller was an 8-3 winner over Northcutt on the No. 3 singles court.
Jacob Triplett and Devin King had relatively easy days for the Twister boys, each winning in singles and then teaming in doubles.
Triplett topped Josh Williams 8-2 at No. 1 and King downed Jeff Betonio 8-1 at No. 3. The two then earned an 8-1 win over Williams and Nic Bowers at the top doubles spot.
Peyton Cox defeated Bowers 8-3 at No. 2 in singles and then joined John Harpole for an 8-2 win over Betonio and Jesse Cochrane in doubles.
Alex Pegram and Ellis Critchlow rounded out UC’s singles sweep with 8-4 wins over Cochrane and Elliot Feith at the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
Central’s best play came at the top two spots in girls’ singles and the No. 2 slot in boys’ singles.
Marissa Howard and Lindsay Castellaw came up short in a pair of 8-5 decisions to Molly Houston and Shelbie Hurt, respectively.
Gooch, meanwhile, won four of the six games OC managed to pick up in an 8-4 setback to Austin Ripley.
