UCFD incorrectly listed Posted: Friday, March 30, 2012 11:42 am The Messenger, March 30, 2012 An old emergency phone number for the Union City Fire Department has surfaced in a new local phone directory. Years ago, the fire department used 885-3456 for fire calls — but that changed when 911 was implemented and the fire department eventually dropped the number entirely a couple years ago. Union City Fire Chief Kelly Edmison said the fire department’s old emergency number was also eventually reassigned to a Union City resident. Now, the new Ken-Tenn phone directory for the Reelfoot Lake area, which includes Union City, has incorrectly listed the old 885 number as an emergency number — rather than the correct listing to dial 911 — for the Union City Fire Department on the emergency listing page at the front of the book. Edmison said Union City residents should dial 911 in the event of a fire or other emergency and should not call the incorrect 885 number listed in the directory. “It is not the fire department’s number,” he said, expressing concern about the confusion which could result from the phone book misprint. |
