A Union City woman was charged with theft Thursday after allegedly taking lottery tickets from the convenience store where she worked.
Santana Lasheryl Johnson, 26, of 613 North Fourth St., Union City, was issued a misdemeanor citation for a charge of theft under $500, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police had responded Monday evening to the Little General store at 302 West Main St. in Union City, where a store manager reported she found a discrepancy in instant game lottery tickets while completing shift paperwork. The computer showed $40 worth of scratch-off tickets — two $10 tickets and one $20 ticket — unaccounted for, according to the report.
After some investigation, police spoke with Ms. Johnson about 3 p.m. Thursday and she allegedly admitted to tearing the tickets off the roll and removing them from the store without paying for them. She told police she went back to the store and paid for the tickets and resigned from employment.
Police said due to Cox Oil Co. wanting Ms. Johnson charged, she was issued the misdemeanor citation for theft.
