One match is exception as UC shuts down Rebs

Union City took 13 out of 14 matches with its county rival Obion Central.
The 14th was about as close as a tennis match gets.
Union City swept to a 7-0 win in girls’ play, Central winning just six games in all, and took six of the seven boys’ matches by 8-0 shutout decisions with the Rebel win coming in a tiebreaker.
The Lady Tornadoes had a pair of shutouts in singles play as Anna Moore topped Lindsay Castellaw and Ellen Bearden downed Mallori Conley at the second and fifth spots, respectively. Maddie King and Jenna Miller took an 8-0 win over Castellaw and Kristin Storey at the second doubles seed.
Moore and Tara Elam scored an 8-3 verdict over Marissa Howard and Shelly Pate at the top doubles spot.
The other three singles matches were decided by 8-1 scores as King upended Howard, Miller defeated Pate and Elam stopped Storey at the first, third and fourth spots.
The boys’ matches that were played out on the court were all decided by 8-0 scores.
Except one.
OC’s Austin Riley outdueled Peyton Cox in the most competitive match of the day, winning the tiebreaker 8-6 for a 9-8 match victory at the No. 2 seed.
Jacob Triplett defeated Dallas Mathis at No. 1, Devin King topped Klain Davis at No. 3 and Alex Pegram knocked off Jonathan Hopson at No 4 in singles.
On the doubles courts, Triplett and King defeated Mathis and Riley at No. 1, while Cox and Pegram stopped Davis and Hopson at No. 2.
Ellis Critchlow won his singles match by forfeit.
