The Messenger, March 30, 2012
The Messenger has learned of the death of Dana Ray Spencer, 62, of Union City, who died March 15, 2012, at his home. Graveside services are planned at Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor, Vt., where he had also lived, at a later date. The family requests that memorials be made to Windsor High School Alumni Association, P.O. Box 350, Windsor, VT 05089; or to Rachel S. Harlow Methodist Church, P.O. Box 735, Windsor, VT 05089. Knight Funeral Home in Windsor is in charge of arrangements. He was born Sept. 6, 1949, in Windsor, son of Jerold and Blanche Spencer of Windsor. He graduated from Windsor High School in 1967 and was employed at Goodyear in Windsor until the plant closed in 1987. A hard and dedicated worker, he transferred to Goodyear’s plant in Union City and retired in September 2011. He had been a member of the Vermont National Guard and was an active supporter of the Windsor Elks Lodge and the American Legion, as well as the former Eagles Club in Union City. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR races on TV, as well as occasionally attending races and events. He always gave a helping hand to friends and those in need and he had a special place in his heart for cats. He rescued and nurtured strays found near his home, nurturing them, giving them a home and helping them back to health and taking care of their kittens before finding them homes. He is also survived by two brothers, Gary Spencer of Williamstown, Mass., and Mark Spencer of White River Junction, Vt.; his sister and brother-in-law, Jill Spencer-White and Jeffrey White of Windsor; two nephews, Christopher Spencer and Dylan Spencer; and three nieces, Ashley Spencer, Riley White and Taylor Nalette.
