The Lady Tornadoes dodged the day-long raindrops on Thursday and swept Bradford 9-0 and 11-1 in the only prep softball game played involving a local team. Today’s games — weather permitting — have Lake County at Obion Central and South Fulton at Hickman County in baseball, while Union City hosts Halls and SF plays at Humboldt in softball. OC begins two days of play in Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches Associa-tion Tournament today, while baseball action also continues in the L.H. Ladd Memorial Classic at Elam Stadium with two games. Union City will play twice in the event on Saturday, vs. Dyersburg at 11 a.m. and then against Lone Oak at 3. SOFTBALL UC 9-11, Bradford 0-1 Brittany Parker gave up just one hit in six innings of pitching work and got the victory in both games for the Lady Tornadoes. Parker went four frames in the opener with seven strikeouts and just one walk and then went two shutout innings in the nightcap that was shortened to three innings due to the mercy rule. She fanned three in Game 2. Freshman Ashley Faught finished up both games, fanning the side in one inning of work in the opener and striking out two while being touched for an unearned run in the nightcap. The second game was a combined no-hitter. Tory Reedy carried the big stick for UC in both games, with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI in the opener. She drove in three runs with two singles in the nightcap. Kaitlyn Wheeles scored twice in both games, while Bettye Claire Beachum drove in two tallies in Game 1 and had two singles and a RBI in the second outing.
