The Dresden Duplicate had two amazing and interesting games this past week.  Four tables in each game gave everyone a good workout and testy problem to play. All the players love challenging one another. We were pleased to have Richard Thompson of Fulton, Ky., join us and play with partner Margie Evans.
The delights to satisfy appetites were a vanilla pound cake with raisins, cashew nuts, and that was it. They had voted not to bring anything for treats. Alma Ford brought the cake. But that lasted just for one night. They all want something to nibble on, so something will be done about that starting in two weeks.
Winners of this game were first, Alma Ford and Sarah Pentecost; second, Margie Evans and Richard Thompson and tied for third were Fredrika Schleifer and Charlotte Erwin of Union City, and Bertha Henry and Jane Young.
On Wednesday we had four tables with eight players ready to get into the action. There were very interesting hands with four biddable slams, but none were makeable. Our appetites suffered again that day. Carol Ehlers of Paris brought her usual cheese bars with crackers or spinach dip and we also had Mexican salsa, tortillas and another block of cheese. Maybe things will change.
Winners of this game were first, Sue Thompson of Paris and Jack Bogue of Milan; second, Sarah Pentecost and Tom Beard; and third, Bertha Henry and Jane Young. Published in The WCP 3.22.12
