South Fulton picked up its first prep soccer win of the season over Gibson County Tuesday, while the Union City Middle School program did the same against its closest rival.
The Red Devils scored four first-half goals and went on to a 6-1 victory over GC, while the Jr. Tornadoes topped Martin 2-1 at Graham Park.
Obion Central dropped a 4-1 decision to Westview in high school play.
SF is scheduled to play host to OC on Thursday in both teams’ next action, while the Union City Middle Schoolers will host Humboldt Thursday.
The following is a recap of Tuesday’s matches.
HIGH SCHOOL
South Fulton 6, GC 1
Harrison Hawks recorded a hat-trick for the Red Devils with three goals to lead SF to a victory in its home-opener played at the old South Fulton football stadium.
Jalen Sowell scored twice for the Big Red (1-1), while Lane Akers tallied SF’s other goal.
Ryan Moore allowed just one score to the Pioneers — that in the second half.
Thursday’s match is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
Westview 4, OC 1
Conner Rinker’s header off a feed from Victor Guerrero set up Obion Central’s only tally.
The Rebels did get seven saves in goal from Samuel Smith.
OC is now 1-1.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
UC 2, Martin 1
Alexis Vasquez scored both Union City goals and the Twisters, who are now 2-1 following back-to-back victories.
Vasquez tallied both of his scores in the second half after Martin held a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
Cooper Hurt allowed just one Panther shot past him in goal for UC.
Union City’s match with Humboldt Thursday will begin at 5:30.
