| LET THERE BE MUSIC — Sunday afternoon will be filled with music, courtesy of talented band students at Union City Middle School and Union City High School. The sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade bands at UCMS will perform in a free concert that is open to the public at 2 p.m. in the Union City Civic Auditorium. The UCHS Concert Band spring concert will take place at 4 at the auditorium. This group will be highlighting tunes ranging from Sousa to the new sounds of composers like Samuel Hazo and Eric Whitacre. In addition, the newly-formed UCHS Jazz Band (pictured above) will be featured in this free concert. Big band swing and fusion rock tunes are on the play list. The jazz band was put together at the request of students, who expressed their dedication by practicing at 7 a.m., according to UCHS band director John Easley. He and UCMS band director Jason Deem invite the community to attend. | | | |
