Updated: The 74-year-old victim was Marjorie Irvine.

TRAGEDY ON TRACKS – Martin Fire Department, Martin Police Department and Weakley County Ambulance Service work to stabilize a 74-year-old pedestrian who was hit by a train near North Davis Street in Martin around 4:20 Wednesday afternoon. The victim suffered injuries to her left side and potential head injuries. She was transported by ambulance to Volunteer Community Hospital before being flown by Air Evac Lifeteam to The Med in Memphis. According to an incident report issued by the MPD, the department was told the victim had passed away in route to the hospital at 6:30 Wednesday night.

The report further noted witnesses on the scene said Ms. Irvine was crossing the train right of way and did not seem to respond to the fact the train’s horn was being sounded. The train began braking, but was unable to stop before striking the victim.
