The Messenger, March 15, 2012
Lael Sunday School Class at Union City First Baptist Church met recently at the church and Joyce Stephens, the class teacher, opened with prayer.
Bobbie Adams asked for the names of those who are sick and others in need of prayer and then offered that prayer.
Dot Capps, devotional leader, gave the devotional taken from Psalms 42 and 43.
Most Bible students, she said, treat both psalms as one, for several reasons. It is not clear who wrote these psalms, she added, but whoever it was had a deep longing  to worship God. Often the author semed to feel like a thirsty deer in a drought and other times he felt as if he were drowning. The word of God often compares experiences with God like water for the soul. Ms. Capps said it was like the writer was thirsting for God in these psalms.
Lena Mai Pruitt was the hostess and served nuts, candy, snack mix, cake and drinks.
After the meeting, members played Mexican Train.
Those present were Mrs. Stephens, Edna McItosh, Jean Eaker, Faye Passmore, Jessie White, Dorothy Rasberry, Ms. Capps, Trudie Thornton, Mrs. Adams, Ms. Pruitt and Pat  Cunningham.
The next meeting will be April 10, with Mrs. Stephens as hostess.
