Anthony wins match,
but not NWA title Controversy ruled in the squared circle where the “Golden Boy” Greg Anthony took the win but not the title against National Wrestling Alliance Southern Heavy-weight champion Drew Haskins in their main event match Saturday night in Union City.
With Anthony distracting the referee and Drew on the floor at ringside, The Fabulous Rocker hit Drew in the legs with an unidentified object, ultimately resulting in Drew’s being counted out.
Drew held on to his title, however, as NWA rules stipulate that the challenger must pin the champion or make the champion submit to take the title.
Other matches saw “The Trendsetter” Jon Michael defeat The Fabulous Rocker, “3G” Eric Wayne beat Justin Borne, Bull Bronson tear part of the ring down when he missed a “bull bomb” in a hard-fought victory over NWA Main Even Superstar Nick Iggy, and Naughty By Nature “Rude” win in his NWA Warriors of Wrestling Federation debut.
Rocker and Rude will bring their feud to Union City in the main event of this weekend’s card. Other matches will have Anthony facing off against Borne, Bronson meeting “The Blues Man” Ike Tucker and area newcomer Shawn Reed squaring off against Justin “The Juice” Smart. as Mr. Basketball John Ross Glover is still the best basketball player in Division II.
The University School of Jackson senior forward won his second consecutive TSSAA Division II-Class A Boys’ Mr. Basketball award, the honor announced Saturday following the conclusion of the private school state tournaments.
A four-year starter for the Bruins, he averaged 30.7 points and 7.2 rebounds a game this season.

favor fishing teams LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Nearly a quarter of Kentucky public high schools have expressed interest in fielding teams for bass fishing competitions.
The interest comes after the KHSAA announced that it will sanction it as a varsity sport beginning in the fall, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported .
