One driver was possibly injured and another charged with driving under the influence in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in the 2300 block of East Reelfoot Avenue in Union City.
The incident occurred just after 4 p.m., according to a Union City Police Department report.
An officer reported he responded to the area to find a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck with extensive rear-end damage at the intersection of East Reelfoot Avenue and Section Line Road. The driver, 47-year-old Larry Farley of Troy, was complaining of injuries and was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel and firefighters before being transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
The other vehicle allegedly involved, a 2001 Kia Rio driven by Charles Keith Farlow, 21, of 125 West Ashley Drive, Gleason, was farther down the street. The officer went to the 2500 block of East Reelfoot Avenue and found the other vehicle had extensive damage to its front. The officer said he located the driver, identified as Farlow, and could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage. He reported Farlow also indicated he had taken prescription medication a few minutes earlier, according to the report.
Farlow was arrested for driving under the influence, police reported. He was treated at the scene for cuts to his head and face.
Farley told police a blue car struck the rear of his pickup truck while he was driving in the righthand lane going eastbound. The car then continued on and stopped down the road.
Police said Farlow was confused and could not explain what had happened. Upon further investigation, police believe his car struck a wooden mailbox post with two mailboxes in the 2200 block of East Reelfoot Avenue and then hit Farley’s pickup truck before continuing to the 2500 block, where the car quit.
Farlow’s passenger, 21-year-old Crystal Noel Guy of 150 Dutchess Lane, Gleason, told police she was not wearing a seat belt and refused medical treatment at the scene. She was issued a citation for no seat belt, according to the report.
