Union City police shut down a local club twice over the weekend for alleged illegal drug activity.
Shenanigans at 2227 Phebus Lane in Union City was shut down early Saturday and again early Sunday after police conducted routine bar checks both times, according to Union City Police Department reports.
The first incident occurred about 2:30 a.m. Saturday when a police investigator and officers went to the club for a bar check. Upon checking the men’s room, the investigator reported he observed a marijuana blunt roach in the toilet and plastic baggies in the floor adjacent to the toilet. He said there was a faint odor of marijuana in the room, but it could not be detected outside the bathroom.
The investigator told the disc jockey to shut off the music and advised club owner Michael Hayes and the patrons that they were closed due to alleged marijuana usage, according to the reports.
The second incident occurred during another bar check by the police investigator and officers about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. The investigator said upon entering the building, he found it to be extremely crowded, but no illicit odors were noticed.
According to the report, the investigator checked the men’s restroom and reported he encountered a smoke-filled room that smelled like marijuana. Police shut down the club at that point.
