Doss, Barnes to marry

The engagement and forthcoming marriage of Denise Barnes and Rev. Elwood Doss Jr., are being announced today.
The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Walton and Percilla Gambill Barnes of Clinton, Ind.
She is a graduate of South Fulton High School. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Murray State University in speech/language pathology and received an elementary education endorsement from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind.
The groom-elect is the son of the late Elwood Sr. and Mabel Doss of Union City. He is the widower of the late Carolyn Sims Doss of Martin. He is the father of Chuck and (Suzanne) Doss of Union City, Deborah Doss of Milan, and Daniel and (Emily) Doss of Valparaiso, Ind.
Rev. Doss graduated from Obion County Central High School. He received his bachelor’s in music education from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and his master’s in music education at Southeast Missouri State University, and did additional theological studies at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
He spent 18 years in music ministry at First Baptist in Martin.
He then served two years at First Baptist in Fulton, Ky., followed by a part-time music ministry at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Martin, where he is currently serving.
He also is presently on staff in the Department of Music at UTM as a piano technician/technical director/and adjunct music instructor, and privately tunes pianos in the area.
The couple will exchange vows at 2 p.m. March 31 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Martin.
Music will begin at 1:30. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall of the church.
