Thyra Story Provine Posted: Wednesday, February 29, 2012 4:00 pm Thyra Story Provine, age 93, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at the Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden. She was born August 17, 1918 in Stella, Ky., daughter of Siegel and Hontas Enoch Story. She was raised in Paris and graduated from E. W. Grove High School in 1936 and business school. She was secretary to former pastor H. h. Stembridge of the First Baptist Church in 1938. She married Edgar Provine in 1939 and they made their home in Paris, Fulton, Ky. and Milan. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paris and Milan where she was an active member for over 75 years. While living in Paris, she was a member of the Historical Society, the Paris-Henry County Arts Council, and Friends of the Library. She was a long-time member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was affectionately called “Gama.” She lived her life with a smile on her face and brought joy to everyone she met. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edge, in 1972; a brother, Glenn Story; and a sister, Sue Story Hurt. She is survived by a daughter, Paula Thomas (Tommy) of Dresden; a son, Marshall Provine (Deborah) of Olive Branch, Miss.; four grandchildren, Jimmy Killebrew (Scott) of Dresden, Molly Martin (Ryan Morrow) of Knoxville, Lindsey Provine of Greenville, Miss. and Matthew Thomas of Memphis; and five great-grandchildren, Callen and Caroline Killebrew, Lauren Martin, and Ashlyn and Hayden Dale. Visitation was held Monday at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Puryear City Cemetery in Puryear. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the building fund of Dresden First United Methodist Church. WCP 2.28.12 |
