Linda Katherine Moore Hearn died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis after a long illness.
Ms. Hearn was born Jan. 7, 1943, in Gibson County to Paul C. and Lovie Holt Moore. She was graduated from Greenfield High School in May of 1960. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a major in English and minor in history in 1963; Master of Science degree in Education in 1973; and thirty semester hours above Master’s from the University of Tennessee at Martin and Bethel College. Ms. Hearn taught English at Westview High School from 1971-74 and at Greenfield High School from 1965-68 and from 1974 until she retired in 1996. She co-sponsored the Beta Club at Greenfield, and her classes presented plays for the community’s enjoyment. She served as adjunct instructor for Bethel College and for the University of Tennessee at Martin from 1984 until 1999. After her retirement from Tennessee, she taught at several schools in Kentucky from 1999 until 2004.
Ms. Hearn was a life-long active member of the Greenfield United Methodist Church, an active member and former president of both the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Women Educators and the Greenfield High School Alumni Association.
Ms. Hearn is preceded in death by her parents, Paul C. and Lovie Holt Moore. She leaves one daughter, Paula Suzanne Hearn Moore; her son-in-law, Allen Moore; her two granddaughters, Mary Katherine Moore and Robbilee June More; her brother, Bobby (Adele) Moore; two nieces, LaDawn Moore (Walter III) Hudson and Michelle Moore Lewis.
Visitation was held at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield on Friday, Feb. 24. The funeral was held at Williams Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 with the Rev. Russell M. Morrow officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Greenfield United Methodist Church in care of Camille Essary or to the Dr. Nathan Porter Library in care of Sandy Dowland or Greenfield High School Library.
