The Martin Beautiful Committee has announced speakers for the Spring Garden Seminar to be held March 10 at the University of Tennessee at Martin’s Boling University Center in Room 111.
Starting at 9 a.m., Mike Biggs of Biggs Greenhouses in Greenfield will speak on how annuals add color.
Following at 10:15, the topic will be plant materials for northwest Tennessee, presented by Dan Morris of Morris Nursery and Landscapes Inc. in Jackson.
Those two speakers combine for over 60 years of gardening experience and offer a wealth of information for this area of the state, a spokesman said.
Biggs started his family business at his kitchen table potting petunias. It has grown to several greenhouses, where he and his son, Jake, plant fall mums and pansies and a wide variety of spring annuals. Biggs likes to tell customers who ask if the geraniums have arrived that he doesn’t get the plants delivered but rather, “We grow them right here.”
Morris has a degree in horticulture and landscape design from the University of Tennessee. He and his wife, Debbie, and son, Mark, along with 25 associates, design, plant and install landscape projects. They build water features, patios and are irrigation and landscape lighting contractors. The Morrises have a passion for what they do and strive to create a garden oasis their customers will enjoy for many years.
Biggs Greenhouses, Morris Nursery, Peach Grove Nursery and Zimm’s Nursery will have staff present to answer questions and to provide materials for spring planting.
There will be door prizes and refreshments, according to organizers.
Admission is free.
