Vaughn effort supported Posted: Saturday, February 25, 2012 1:46 pm The Messenger, February 24, 2012 Several members of the Union City High School Class of 1978 are supporting a Washington, D.C., marathon to benefit the family of fallen U.S. Navy SEAL Aaron Vaughn, a native of Obion County. Vaughn’s uncle, Kurt Rodenburger, graduated from UCHS in 1978 and his mother, Karen (Rodenberger) Vaughn, graduated in 1980. Some class members have become involved with a mid-March marathon fund raiser to benefit Vaughn’s two young children, 2-year-old Reagan and eight-month-old Chamberlyn. The fundraiser was organized by a group of Washington Redskins cheerleaders. Vaughn’s widow, Kimberly, was a Redskins cheerleader who met Vaughn in 2005 on Guam when she was there entertaining the troops. Four classmates from the UCHS Class of 1978 will be attending and/or running in the marathon next month. They include Kaki (Rogers) Henderson, Dawn (Francis) Murphy, David Hayes and Gary Barnes. Before then, they will be trying to raise as much money as they can for Vaughn’s family. “I think it would mean a lot to Kurt and Karen to know their high school classmates wanted to help,” class member Susan (Harris) McWeeny told classmates in an email. For more information about Team Vaughn or to make an online donation, visit the website www.teamvaughn.us. Anyone who makes an online donation is asked to contact Mrs. Henderson so she can keep track of class donations and share the total with everyone.
