Jasmine Newsome, a sophomore guard for UT Martin, was named the adidas women’s Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week earlier this week.
Newsome averaged 22.5 points, 10 rebounds and 9.0 assists in UT Martin’s two victories this past week at Murray State and Southeast Missouri State.
The Millington native recorded 24 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists versus Murray State. She tallied 21 points, nine rebounds and nine assists at Southeast Missouri State.
This is the fourth time this season Newsome has been the adidas OVC Player of the Week.
Fellow sophomore Heather Butler also had a great week as she averaged 34 points over the two games, including pouring in 41 against Murray State.
The 41 points were one shy of tying the school record for most points in a single game.
The Skyhawks have won 10 consecutive OVC games, the longest winning streak in school history.
UTM is alone atop the OVC standings and will close the regular season this week with two games, hosting Austin Peay tonight and traveling to Jacksonville State on Saturday.
The OVC women’s basketball tournament will be played next week in Nashville. Published in The WCP 2.23.12
