UT Martin takes 2nd in Florida

The UT Martin softball team wrapped up play in the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament Sunday with a 7-1 loss to Boston College in the championship game.
Both UT Martin and Boston College entered the tilt with identical 3-1 records. The Skyhawks claimed victories over Saint Louis, Binghamton and Delaware and suffered a loss to tournament host Florida Gulf Coast University.
Morgan Lewis hit a home run for the Skyhawks against Boston College.
UTM 3, Saint Louis 0
Newcomer Katie Reiff has earned a reputation as a flashy infielder with amazing range and a better than average arm, but Friday afternoon the Lake Land Community College transfer showed off at the plate with her bat.
Reiff hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to ignite a three-run inning and lead UTM to a 3-0 victory over Saint Louis in the Florida Gulf Coast Softball Tournament in Fort Myers.
Lewis also drove in a run for the Skyhawks, who had five hits in the victory.
In the circle, UT Martin senior pitcher Chelsea Jones threw her fourth complete game of the season. She gave up six hits and three walks. She also recorded six strikeouts en route to her fourth victory of the season.
Fla. Gulf Coast 6, UTM 0
Florida Gulf Coast pitcher Shelby Morgan pitched a complete game to lead the host Eagles to a 6-0 victory. Morgan gave up three hits and two walks. She struck out four.
UT Martin sophomore Amanda Brandenburg had two of the three hits, while Lydia Biggerstaff also recorded a hit.
The Eagles tagged three Skyhawk pitchers in the game; Brandenburg, who started the game for the Skyhawks; Jones who pitched the first game of the tournament; and freshman Kenzi Tate.
UTM 7, Binghamton 4
Junior Leah Taylor went 3-for-4 at the plate with her second triple of the season to lead the Skyhawks past Binghamton (New York) Saturday afternoon in Fort Myers, Fla.
Taylor drove in two runs and scored two runs. She also had two more stolen bases. Brandenburg hit her first home run of the season en route to a 3-for-4 effort at the plate. Lewis was 2-for-4 at the plate.
Jones picked up her fifth consecutive win of the season in the circle as she pitched a 7-inning-complete game. She gave up six hits, four earned runs and two walks. She also struck out 11 in the game.
UTM 9, Delaware 1
Freshman pitcher Casey Vincent pitched a five-inning complete game to lead UT Martin over Delaware Saturday.
