Firefighters worked this morning to control a house fire at 806 North Ury St. in Union City as firefighter Trena Edgin of the Union City Fire Department successfully used oxygen to revive a cat rescued from one side of the burning duplex. The structure was already heavily involved by fire when the blaze was reported shortly after 8 a.m. and firefighters worked amid heavy smoke for several minutes to bring the fire under control. The south side duplex where the fire was heaviest was occupied by Cathy Reynolds, who drives a transit bus and was at work at the time, according to a family member, who said several other cats and a puppy were still missing in the fire’s aftermath. Union City firefighters were assisted by firefighters from other area departments on both North Ury Street and at a commercial fire alarm call reported at a Union City school at the same time firefighters were fighting the house fire. At press time, firefighters were still working at the scene of the house fire and no specific details were available.
