Community members laid to rest a business leader today (Thursday) as they bid their final farewells to Truett Jones.
Jones, 91, died Monday at Weakley County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dresden.
Jones and his family moved from Latham to downtown Martin in 1922, when the family opened Winstead and Jones Funeral Home.
Jones grew up in the funeral home business and eventually learned the accounting trade, where he spent the last several decades of his life handling accounts for noted figures such as the late Gov. Ned Ray McWherter.
He served on the board of directors for City State Bank in Martin from 1968 until 1990. He also served on the State Board of Accountancy for Tennessee for about 12 years and had a role as treasurer of First Baptist Church in martin for many years.
The World War II Army veteran was remembered by his assistant Linda Bowers, as being one of the most, honest and organized men she had ever known. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Rawls Jones.
Services were held today for Jones.
