WUTM-FM, the University of Tennessee at Martin student radio station, has been named the Best College Radio Station in the South for the third consecutive year at the annual Southeast Journalism Conference (SEJC).
The station is the first college radio station in the conference to win the title for three consecutive years and it was presented the award during SEJC 2012 held recently on the UT Martin campus.
“I’m so proud of our students and media advisers as we continue this winning tradition in broadcasting and print media. I’m especially proud of WUTM advisor Dr. Richard Robinson for his vision and tireless dedication to WUTM’s excellence and to his staff for yet again being named Best in the South,” said Dr. Robert Nanney, Department of Communications chair and associate professor.
WUTM also placed second at the conference for Best College Audio News and several UTMartin students were recognized for individual awards. Recent graduate Allison Jones of Columbia received third place in Best College Radio Journalist; Josh Lemons of Martin received fourth place in Newspaper Layout and Design; Cheryl DeYeso of Martin received eighth place in News Graphic Design; and Josh Weiss of Germantown received eighth place in Best Sports Writing.
“This is an incredible honor for WUTM and the students. I’m very pleased and gratified that the Southeast Journalism Conference has recognized our station as number one for the third year. It takes a supportive administration and a committed communications department, as well, to foster this record of excellence. I am so proud of our campus radio station,” said Robinson, assistant professor of communications.
