LaVerne Brown Simmons Posted: Tuesday, February 21, 2012 9:56 am Mrs. LaVerne Brown Simmons, 98, of Martin, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at the Weakley County Rehab & Nursing Center in Dresden. Services were held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel in Martin with Rev. Paul Simmons officiating, Burial was in Cane Creek Cemetery, Rives. Paul Brent Simmons, Gene Done, Leon Barber and Wayne Barber served as pallbearers. Mrs. Simmons was born Dec. 5, 1913, in Obion County, daughter of the late Emerson Ethridge and Rosa Ross Brown. She was the widow of Dewey B. Simmons. She attended Dixie High School, was a sales representative for Electrolux Corp. and a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Paul Simmons of Louisville, Ky., and David Simmons of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter Grace Prince of Nashville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
